A garden lounge is used differently than a dining table. You sit for longer, lower down, and often only in the late afternoon. This is exactly when the sun is low and slips under shading that has been planned too high or too centrally. The sail must therefore be matched to the seating height and usage time.

Sit on your sofa and armchairs and take a photo of the direction of the sun at your typical time of use. The decisive factor is not just the shade on the ground, but whether your face, backrest, and cushions are protected. A laterally offset edge can be more effective than additional fabric width.

Protect cushions from the sun – assess rain realistically
Shade can reduce fading and heat buildup. A waterproof sail provides additional protection against a shower if there is sufficient slope, but it is not a substitute for winterproof cushion storage. With HDPE, rain runs through; in return, the air remains particularly open on hot days.

Preserve sightlines and garden atmosphere
Posts should not stand directly in front of the view or in the middle of access paths. Coordinate the fabric color and shape with the area without enclosing it like a second roof. Triangles and trapezoids can appear lighter than a full-surface rectangle when the view is unobstructed.

- Keep posts out of lines of sight and walking paths
- Protect cushions against longer periods of rain despite the sail
