In Münster, changeable weather is part of everyday garden life. Your bike is still damp against the wall while the table is already back in the sun. A shade sail can turn this into a more reliable favorite spot – provided the material and drainage are suited to how you actually use the space.
Custom shade sails for brick courtyards and gardens
Many courtyards are elongated, enclosed by walls, and not rectangular. Then there are bicycles, passageways, and doors that must remain unobstructed. A trapezoid or a straight custom shape often makes better use of such areas than a standard rectangle that is too wide.
Plaster, insulation, railings, extensions, or exposed masonry are not automatically suitable anchor points. Before taking final measurements, you should therefore determine where the tensile forces can be safely transferred into the structure. If a load-bearing point is missing in the right place, an additional post can be the cleaner solution.

Airy shade or protection from a shower?
HDPE lets rain pass through and dissipates heat well. PU-coated polyester is waterproof and suitable if you want the table to stay protected during a short shower. However, it requires a significant slope and proper tensioning. You can find more on this in our comparison of waterproof vs. water-permeable options.
Keep passageways clear for bicycles and garden paths
Plan not only the fabric area but also the ropes, turnbuckles, and posts. A fastening rope at shoulder height across a bike path is not a good idea, even if the sail looks perfect on the blueprint. Walkways should be mapped out first.

Fastening to brick and facades
The visible brickwork alone says little about the load-bearing capacity of the wall structure. Have critical connections assessed on-site and set posts on sufficiently dimensioned foundations. The basics are explained in the article How to properly fasten a shade sail.

Typical areas of application in Münster
- Brick courtyards and terraced house gardens
- Bike-friendly passageways
- Patios where rain protection is desired
- Catering and community areas
On private patios and in gardens, the focus is usually on a clearly defined seating or dining area. In catering, daycare centers, or commercial settings, walkways, multiple users, and often several sails are involved. In Münster, therefore, the entire outdoor area is not covered indiscriminately; instead, we shade the areas that are actually used.
Order UNICOVR shade sails individually
After selecting the shape, enter your measured fabric dimensions and add your desired features. Rectangles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, and straight custom shapes are all possible. This ensures that a narrow courtyard doesn't leave behind an unused strip of space – and your sail doesn't become a compromise that only works in a product photo.
