Augsburg courtyards and gardens are often more structured than they appear at first glance. Walls, outbuildings, old trees, or a narrow stream set the direction. An off-the-shelf shade sail ignores such details. A custom-made one can incorporate them.
Sun protection for courtyards, gardens, and narrow terraces
Especially in elongated gardens, the seating area is often located between the house wall and a side boundary. A rectangle can efficiently cover this zone; in the case of staggered walls, a trapezoid is often cleaner. A clear path through the garden remains important – including all ropes and posts.
Plaster, insulation, railings, extensions, or exposed masonry are not automatically suitable anchor points. Before final measurements are taken, it should therefore be clarified where the tensile forces can be safely transferred to the structure. If a load-bearing point is missing in the right place, an additional post can be the cleaner solution.
Do not leave water drainage to chance
A waterproof sail made of PU-coated polyester requires sufficient slope. Water should neither run along the facade nor end up in a passageway. Our guide on slope for shade sails explains how inclination and the lowest point work together.
Anyone who primarily wants shade and air circulation is usually well served with HDPE; rain can run through the fabric. If a dining or guest area should remain usable during a shower, waterproof polyester is an option. In that case, the slope and water drainage must be determined from the start.
Configure custom shade sails directly
Once the attachment points and the desired shaded area are determined, the sail can be configured directly online.
When only shade is desired
For pure shading, HDPE is an airy alternative. Rain passes through, but heat can escape more easily. Over a sunny dining area, this is often more pleasant than a dense surface – provided that plates and cushions move into the house during a shower anyway.

Carefully assess existing walls
Historical masonry, veneers, and insulated facades require appropriate connections. Not every visible wall is allowed to absorb the tensile forces of a tensioned sail. If in doubt, a local specialist company is the right contact; we do not carry out assembly ourselves outside of Berlin and Brandenburg.

Typical areas of application in Augsburg
- Narrow city gardens
- Courtyards with old masonry
- Terraces by the house and outbuildings
- Outdoor areas for cafes, practices, or offices
On private terraces and in gardens, the focus is usually on a clearly defined seating or dining area. In the catering, daycare, or commercial sectors, paths, multiple users, and often several sails are added. In Augsburg, therefore, the entire outdoor area is not covered as a blanket rule; instead, the areas that are actually used are shaded.
