A loggia is roofed and enclosed on the sides. At first glance, this might suggest little need for a shade sail, until the low afternoon or morning sun shines directly into the living space. This is not about a second roof, but about precisely positioned shading within the open facade plane.

For a loggia, the lateral sun angle is what counts

Observe when the sun passes beneath the ceiling or lintel. A small, diagonally positioned triangle can be more effective than a horizontal rectangle. At the same time, the view, airflow, and daylight should be maintained. Therefore, mark the troublesome direction before choosing the fabric shape.

Improvising with ceiling and sidewall instead of railings

Parapets and railings are not automatically designed for the tensile loads of a sail. Suspended ceilings or thin cladding also do not provide reliable attachment points. You must be familiar with the wall and ceiling structure; in rented or owned properties, the necessary approval must be obtained before ordering.

In a recessed position, downdrafts and air currents can still become quite strong. All connections should remain safely accessible from the loggia floor. Doors, shutters, lights, and window sashes should be included in their fully opened position in the measurement sketch.
