UNICOVR Custom-made Shade Sail

Buy custom-made shade sails in Vienna

A Viennese courtyard can be wonderfully quiet in summer – until the afternoon sun hits the only empty table between the facades. On roof terraces, it is the other way around: plenty of sky, plenty of sun, and often significantly more wind. An off-the-shelf shade sail will hardly do justice to both of these places equally.

UNICOVR shade sails are made to your dimensions and can be ordered to Austria. You choose the shape, material, and extras online; the price remains visible throughout the configuration process.

Shade sails for Viennese courtyards and roof terraces

In a courtyard, staggered walls, passageways, and the shade from neighboring buildings determine the geometry. On a rooftop, wind, secure anchor points, and easy disassembly are what count. For terraces and gardens on the outskirts of the city, however, the actual time of use becomes the focus.

Plaster, insulation, railings, extensions, or exposed masonry are not automatically suitable anchor points. Before taking final measurements, you should therefore clarify where the tensile forces can be safely transferred to the structure. If a load-bearing point is missing in the right place, an additional post can be the cleaner solution.

There is still one common rule: Observe the area first, then measure. Photos taken in the morning and late afternoon often show that the desired shade does not fall exactly where the planned fabric will be.

Old buildings, rented apartments, and private property

With historical facades, insulation, and common property, drilling is not a spontaneous weekend decision. Load-bearing capacity must be clarified; depending on the property, approval or regulatory requirements may play a role. Our overview on permit requirements provides general guidance. However, for a project in Vienna, Austrian and local regulations apply.

HDPE or waterproof sail cloth?

HDPE is air-permeable and a pleasant choice for pure shading. Rain passes through the fabric. Coated polyester is waterproof and can provide additional protection for your seating area, but it requires a slope, tension, and a planned drainage path. Especially in a courtyard, it should be determined beforehand where this water will end up.

Those who primarily want shade and air circulation are usually well served by HDPE; rain can drain through the fabric. If a dining or guest area needs to remain usable during a shower, waterproof polyester is an option. In that case, the slope and water drainage must be planned from the very beginning.

Configure online from Vienna

Rectangle, square, triangle, trapezoid, or a custom free-form shape: enter the determined sail dimensions and add the desired equipment. The distance between the attachment points is not the size of the fabric itself; connection elements and tensioning paths require space. Please use our measuring guide if needed.
