A triangle looks light, but sacrifices shading area at the sides. A rectangle covers more, but requires four coherent pulling directions. Trapezoids and free-form shapes with straight edges help when existing points are not at right angles to each other.

Leipzig summer: Don't underestimate the shading area

Fastening in old building courtyards and established gardens
Old masonry is not automatically bad, but it is also not automatically load-bearing. The same applies to existing pergolas, fences, or tool sheds. Fastening points should transfer the tensile load into the load-bearing structure. For rental properties or communal property, get approval before you pick up the drill.
Plaster, insulation, railings, extensions, or visible masonry are not automatically suitable anchor points. Before final measurements are taken, it should therefore be clarified where the tensile forces can be safely directed into the building structure. If there is no load-bearing point in the right place, an additional post can be the cleaner solution.
