A Munich courtyard, a Franconian beer garden, and a hotel terrace in the Alpine foothills share the same state, but not the same requirements. For a shade sail in Bavaria, it should therefore first be clarified which zone actually needs shade at what time of day.
Beer garden and gastronomy: Table arrangement first
For long rows of tables, a rectangle provides plenty of usable area. A trapezoid can adapt to diagonal terrace edges. Multiple sails are sensible if pathways, service areas, and different seating sections need to be kept separate.

For larger beer gardens, it is worth considering the transition between noon and evening. Not every group of tables needs the same shade at all times. Several cloths can respond more selectively and are easier to dismantle separately at the end of the season.
Alpine foothills and slopes: Use height consciously
Different attachment heights can create a sensible slope for waterproof sails. At the same time, the area should remain easily accessible, especially for hotels and holiday properties with seasonal disassembly.
In the Alpine foothills or on staggered plots, the side view should be considered early on. Varying heights can allow for a good slope, but must not lead to low cloth edges or hard-to-reach fittings. Especially for holiday properties, ease of handling is what counts.
From Munich to Regensburg: City plots require precision
In Munich, courtyards, balconies, and roof terraces are typical cases. Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, and Ingolstadt also feature gardens, commercial terraces, and townhouse areas.
In Munich, balconies, courtyards, and roof terraces are often tightly confined. Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, or Ingolstadt also offer townhouse gardens and commercial terraces. A custom-made sail can be placed there precisely between doors, facades, and walkways.
HDPE or waterproof polyester?
HDPE remains air-permeable and lets rain pass through. Waterproof polyester keeps a seating area drier during a shower if the slope and drainage are correct.
For an airy garden spot, HDPE is often completely sufficient. On a catering terrace, however, rain protection can offer genuine added value. Waterproof polyester must then be sloped so that water drains in a controlled manner and does not end up at the entrance or in the middle of the tables.
Better to zone large guest terraces
For a beer garden, hotel, or restaurant, it is worth sketching out table rows and walkways first. A large sail over the entire area can create an unnecessarily large surface area for wind to catch. Several custom-made rectangular or trapezoidal shade sails can be positioned more selectively over the occupied areas.
In the Alpine foothills and at high altitudes, the construction should also be planned so that the connections remain accessible. This facilitates disassembly during unsuitable weather and before winter strain.
Franconia, Alpine foothills, and urban terraces
In Bavaria, the typical installation situations differ significantly. In the Alpine foothills and on slopes, differences in height and open locations play a larger role. In Franconia and for beer gardens, it is more often about long table groups, while in Munich or other cities, compact terraces and courtyards require precisely fitted solutions.
A custom-made shade sail can accommodate these differences without spanning an unnecessarily large area. Especially with narrow city terraces, an elongated rectangle is often more efficient than a large triangle.
Beer garden and hotel: Practicality over maximum size
For gastronomy and hotels, planning should begin with table rows, service paths, and doors. Two or three medium-sized cloths can be more flexible than one single maximum area. They are easier to label, dismantle individually, and adjust to different usage times.
Seasonal handling should also be considered early on. A cloth that can only be dismantled with great effort is not very practical in a hotel or catering operation. Easily accessible tensioning points and clear assignment are therefore just as important as the actual shaded area.
